THE ALMOST FORGOTTEN HESTER PULTER: INTRODUCTION

Introduction:      As you all know, I'm in university and this term I've started taking a class on Hester Pulter. This is an incredible situation where not much is known about Pulter, as her manuscript was rediscovered in 1996. She was a poet living from 1605-1678 and she works are amazing. What's more, because her work has only been rediscovered in the past thirty years we have the amazing opportunity to be apart of the conversation. This is not a Shakespeare play where we get to explore for the millionth time, each of Pulter's poems are so fresh for the conversation that we get to help build this conversation.       So, as I do this in class, I will be using this blog to write down all my thoughts and notes as I personally read through her works and do my best from the stance as a writer and also as a university student to unpack this beautiful moment in time.      Please check out this link:  https://pulterproject.northwest...

JUSTICE FOR MAHSA AMINI.

JUSTICE FOR MAHSA AMINI. Please share this knowledge around. I’ve always tried to use my platform for good and use my voice to not only give my readers a good book but one that reflects the cruel reality of our time and age. Today, I ask you to listen to this. Mahsa Amini was a 22-year-old Iranian woman who went back to Iran to visit. There, she wore her hijab out in public and respected the Iranian law even tho she disagreed with it. However, the moral police didn’t find her hijab to standards and they publicly beat her. After beating her publicly, they transported her and she died from that beating. However, the police stated she died from a heart attack despite never having heart issues nor having a family history of it. The Iran media stated she died “in police custody when she was arrested for “re-education” and “guidance” on proper Islamic attire.” And since then there has been many protests against the government and in these protests many are either getting beaten or kil...

8 TIPS WHEN WRITING

HERE IS 8 TIPS TO KEEP IN MIND WHEN WRITING  (These are some tips to keep in mind when writing, they're inspired by this guardian article, while it's an informative and insightful read, some come off comedic and the list is quite large, so here are seven main tips I've gathered from reading it over as someone who writes mainly fictional stories. Here are my opinions on the tips I found most important and also clear exceptions.)                 https://www.theguardian.com/books/2010/feb/20/ten-rules-for-writing-fiction-part-one      1. Never open your story with the weather. If you do only to create an atmosphere and not a character's reaction to the weather, you don't want to begin your story with this cliché or long introduction.      HOWEVER, and here me out: unless it is necessary for the sake of your reader! For example, when starting a story that takes place in a fantasy world, this can be ...

THE ELEMENTAL CHRONICLES (NEW STORY ON WATTPAD FREE TO READ)

Image
In the kingdom of Ipuinia, the status of Aristricata relies on one thing: whether you have elemental blood or you do not. The ability to control one of the four elements means power, and power is status. Have a stronger elemental ability, earn the favor of the queen and find yourself royalty by status.       At least, that's what happened for Ciara Roisin's older brother Fionn Roisin. From the rags of a village devastated by poverty to the riches of being the Heir Prince's royal guard. He brought royal status to the name Roisin, allowing Ciara Roisin to rise to status of nobility. Unfortunately for her, becoming nobility due to her brother's rank will be the least of her problems under the Queen's watchful glare. Not to mention the secret attractions of one heir Prince, and of course where there is magic, there will always be the threat of a deep darkness.      Update: Every Sunday!  READ HERE: https://www.wattpad.c...

WRITERS BLOCK

HOW TO GET RID OF WRITERS BLOCK     We all struggle with it.      That overwhelming moment where we wonder, what next? And our minds write up a block, that Kermit the frog meme dressed in a black cloak saying just give up . To this I say don't worry! I have figured out a way to bust through that block like the koolaid man high on sugar.      Well, for this I thank my University of Toronto professor James who told us writer's block didn't exist and if we do experience it then just keep writing. I know you might be thinking, yeah ok James. Thanks for that. Writing will magically cure my writer's block, because that's exactly what I thought when he pronounced this to our lecture hall. But then I tried it....

HOW TO NOT “TOUR” YOUR WORLD BUILDING

Image
HOW TO NOT “TOUR” YOUR WORLD BUILDING by: Captain Andrews Introduction to this post:   When writing your story, it can be so much fun  to create a fictional world  or mock a factual world . However, it is important to be mindful when you  a re world building to do so in a realistic way that respects the place and land it’s inspired by.  This means to be mindful of the Western lens we can often have of other places around the world.   Of course  this does apply more to using real places around the world and less so to fantastical places such as Middle Earth. To furth er explain this idea, I’d like to take the time to explain what I mean by a western lens, tourism:  the place vs. The hype, and how to research.    Note: This blog is written through the analyzation of what was learned from:  Stranger in the Eco-Village: Race, Tourism and Environmental Time Slow Violence and the Environmentalism of the Poor  by Rob Nixon. ...
